Complete 27 years….

Laying on the bed on her b’day eve, waiting for her husband to come and surprise her. It was 23.00.. just 1 hr was left for her b’day. Nobody came. He was late.. again. Around 23.30, she heard the opening and closing of the main door. Her mind continuously thinking if he will wish her or not. Brain was saying he won’t but her heart said he will. That continuous battle between her heart and brain filled up her bright eyes. She pretended to be asleep. He came inside the bedroom. He was tired. He removed his tie, unbuttoned his shirt. He checked upon her and found her to be asleep. He checked the time, 23.40 it was. He changed into his Pj’s and laid on the other side of the bed. He fell asleep as soon as he closed his eyes. A tear rolled down from her eye that he forgot her b’day, again……

Allie(26) married George(27), 3 years back. It was an arranged marriage for James but Allie loved him since their graduation. She loved him but he didn’t, rather he hated her because of a text..

“Allie.. I know you love me from the time we both graduated but I don’t love you, I love your best friend, Mary and she loves me too. Please say no to this marriage. My parents won’t listen to me but yours will. Please.”

Actually, this text never reached Allie. It was deleted before she could read it.

00.00, the clock said. Damn, the time came. But he was already asleep. She thought he will wish her early in the morning.

The next day.. Her eyes opened up to the bright sunlight, she turned around but he was not there. She checked the whole house but he was not anywhere. She checked her mobile. It was his text.

“I am leaving the town for a week regarding some office work.”

Something inside her broke on reading that text. She called her best friend, Mary. She didn’t receive her call. She must be busy, Allie thought. She changed her clothes and went to the market. She was amused to see George’s car there. She checked the number plate twice. It was George’s car only. She looked around and saw him coming out from a hotel with Mary. They were holding hands like couples. She called George but he rejected the call and texted her that he is in a meeting. She went towards them. They both stopped on seeing her. Mary became nervous and stunned.

“What’s this?”, Allie shouted.

“What?”, George said.

“You texted me that you are going out of the town for some work and what’s this? You’re here with Mary, holding hands like couples..”

“So what? I love her and she loves me. What’s wrong in this?”

“But you’re married to me and Mary is married to Louis.”

“What the hell! Mary loves me. She’s not married. You’re talking rubbish. Everyone knows that you married me because of my money. You don’t love me.. Actually, you never loved me, you loved my money. You knew that I love Mary but still you said yes to the marriage.”

“I didn’t know that you love Mary. How can I know about this. Neither you nor Mary ever told me about this; and Mary.. You were in a relationship with Louis since our graduation and why are you not telling George that you’re married.”

“Just stop it Allie. I trust Mary. Now get lost and let us enjoy. Don’t spoil our day.”

“Come with me. I’m having proof that she’s married.”

“Shut up. I don’t wanna ruin my day because of you.”

Allie went home crying. She called Louis and asked him to come as soon as possible. Louis asked her that what’s the matter. She just said that it’s about Mary. Before going to Allie’s house, Louis first called Mary. Mary received the call in the washroom. Louis told her that Allie called him and asked him to meet her asap. Mary instructed him not to go there.

Mary became upset and irritated. She told George that she has to go to office for a few hours for some work. George rested in their flat while she went to Allie’s house. Allie opened the door thinking Louis has came. Mary rushed inside her house. She took a knife from the kitchen and scratched Allie’s throat with the knife. Allie fell on the floor. Mary fled.

Louis was Allie’s friend too so he thought to call her. He called her. Allie received the call with the couple of heartbeats left.

“Please come asap”, she said.

“Hello.. Hello..”, Louis said but nobody answered.

Louis came there running. He saw her body there. He wanted to take her to the hospital but she refused.

“I’m going to die anyways. Please call George. I want to see him for the last time”

Louis called George from his number. He received the call from the unknown number and came running home. He saw Allie lying on the floor with bleeding throat. He fell on his knees and held her hand…….. Louis told him that his wife, Mary has done this.

“Come Allie. Let’s go to the hospital.”, George said.

“You’re late George.”, Allie said.

These were the last words that the 27 year old spoke. Her hand became loose and lost the grip of George’s hand. Her eyes closed on the same date when they first opened. Nobody can ever bring her back.

George lost a girl who truly loved him.
